#24: Indian Acres

Boo! Did I scare you? It’s finally autumn, both officially and unofficially! It’s chilly in the morning, sweater and boot weather; the leaves are changing and falling off. It’s also October—the month of being scared speechless through haunted hayrides, haunted houses, and creepy attractions guaranteed to make you squirm, all in honor of Halloween. One of my favorite places to go to be straight-through-to-your-bones scared is Indian Acres Haunted Hayride and Forest Walk.

The journey starts off with a hayride, not haunted per-say but scary nonetheless. While nothing will jump out at you or outright try to make you scream, riding a rickety wagon in the dark, knowing you’re about to embark on a haunted forest walk is enough alone to give you the heebie-jeebies.

After the brief hayride, you stand before a dark, seemingly endless forest. As you begin to walk in, everything will start off calm…maybe you hear a few terrified screams from within, but it’s not so bad…just very dark. Then out of nowhere…you hear chainsaws! You can’t see anything, but chainsaws are snapping in between your legs and you can’t run away…they’re chasing you as you try…and finally you escape, into a not-so-comforting dark cemetery, or a laboratory filled with chemistry experiments gone wrong. Throughout your forest walk, more chainsaws will sound as if they are seconds away from your legs, you’ll walk through a creepy cemetery, fog will impair your vision, men in costumes will follow you, and all the while in a pitch black forest. Prepare to scream, often and loud.

If you survive (joke! You’ll surely come out unharmed!) there’s apple cider, apple cider donuts, hot chocolate and many other autumn delicacies available for purchase. This is a great way to get scared pantless!

Until next time,
~Kristen
